The leader in the Azm Alliance, Muhammad al-Dhari, confirmed today, Thursday, that the most prominent challenges facing the Prime Minister-designate, Ali al-Zidi, are represented in the American interference in the mechanism for selecting his government team, in an effort to impose figures who are compatible with the directions of the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Al-Dhari told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The most significant challenge facing the prime minister-designate, Ali al-Zaidi, is American interference in the selection process for his cabinet members and the use of the veto against figures who oppose American influence in Iraq. This could hinder the completion of the government formation within the specified timeframe.”
He added, “The Trump administration has interests in Iraq that it cannot relinquish under any circumstances, and therefore it is working to push for the formation of a government that serves those interests.” He pointed out that “there is widespread rejection of these trends by a large number of members of parliament who oppose American policies in Iraq.”
He continued, “The Trump administration may use a political veto against the new government if it does not align with its objectives,” emphasizing that “the support al-Zaidi receives from the American administration comes with conditions that have become known to everyone.”
