Former MP Mohammed al-Bayati confirmed that the Coordination Framework maintains its firm stance regarding its candidate for Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, noting that the Framework has not initiated or decided to change its nominee.
Al-Bayati told Al-Maalouma, “The Coordination Framework has its options in nominating whomever it deems suitable for the premiership at this stage in Iraq’s history, and it has nominated Nouri al-Maliki for this position.”
He added, “The Framework is proceeding with its decision to nominate al-Maliki to head the next government, and it seems that matters are moving in this direction, especially since the Framework has not raised any idea of changing its nominee or replacing him with another figure.”
He clarified that “the Framework’s position regarding its nominee for Prime Minister remains unchanged, despite pressure exerted by US President Donald Trump after he tweeted his rejection of al-Maliki assuming the presidency and returning to power.”
