MP Mohammed al-Bayati confirmed on Saturday that all indicators point towards the election of the President of the Republic during today’s parliamentary session.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Bayati said, “Today’s session has a quorum, with most political forces present.” He noted that “the prevailing sentiment within parliament is leaning towards a decisive outcome, and there is ample evidence to suggest that Iraqis will witness the election of a president at the end of today’s session, thus fulfilling this constitutional obligation.”
He added, “The voting process is ongoing, and we believe the first round may decide the outcome.” He explained that “the concerted efforts and clear political understandings have all led towards a decisive outcome.”
Al-Bayati emphasized that “the large turnout of members of parliament in today’s session is clear evidence of their awareness of the importance of fulfilling this constitutional obligation and not postponing it.”
