The Information Agency / Baghdad –
Deputy Head of the Reconstruction and Development Parliamentary Bloc, Mansour al-Baiji, denied on Saturday reports circulating about the Islamic Republic of Iran imposing taxes or fees on Iraqi oil.
Al-Baiji told the Information Agency that “the reports circulating on this matter are incorrect,” noting that “what has been raised regarding the Iranian side imposing taxes on Iraqi oil is completely unfounded.”
He added that “oil and economic cooperation between Iraq and Iran is proceeding according to the official understandings and agreements signed between the two countries,” calling for reliance on official sources for information related to the energy sector and urging against circulating inaccurate news.
Al-Baiji pointed out that “what is being circulated by some media outlets regarding the imposition of fees or taxes on Iraqi oil is not based on accurate information.”
Earlier, MP Hamid Mohammed, from the National Approach Bloc, affirmed that Iran allowing Iraq to export oil through the Strait of Hormuz would alleviate the severity of the financial and economic crisis the country is experiencing, given the state’s heavy reliance on oil revenues.
