MP Duha Al-Bahadli, from the National Approach bloc, confirmed on Thursday that there is a clear parliamentary and political trend to hold a session of the House of Representatives after the Eid al-Adha holiday, with the aim of completing the vote on the remaining ministerial cabinet in the government of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zidi.
Al-Bahadli told Al-Maalouma that “the political blocs are showing a serious desire to resolve the issue of the vacant ministerial portfolios during the coming period, and not to continue managing them by proxy,” noting that “the dialogues and political understandings will continue during the Eid holiday to reach a final agreement on the names and portfolios that are disputed.”
She added that “current indicators suggest that a parliamentary session will be held as soon as legislative work resumes, to decide on the remaining vacant ministries, in conjunction with the continuation of political activity between the various forces to bring viewpoints closer and pass the agreed-upon candidates.”
Regarding the work of the House of Representatives during the next phase, Al-Bahadli explained that “the agenda includes a number of important laws, in addition to completing the oversight role and following up on the implementation of the government program,” stressing that “the next phase will witness a focus on passing laws of a service and economic nature, as well as legislation related to administrative reform and living issues that directly affect the lives of citizens.”
She noted “the existence of ongoing parliamentary activity to hold intensive sessions after the Eid holiday, with the aim of compensating for the legislative break and accelerating the completion of pending files.”
Political circles in Iraq are awaiting the upcoming parliamentary session to fill the remaining vacant ministerial posts, amidst efforts led by the Coordination Framework forces to intensify political understandings and ensure the full approval of the cabinet.
