Political analyst Saeed al-Badri believes that Iraq’s need to improve its economic situation and its dependence on Washington in this area does not mean Iraq is subservient to American decisions.
Al-Badri told Al-Maalouma, “Despite Iraq’s desire for good relations with everyone, including the United States, given its economic decline and dependence on Washington, this does not mean that Iraq is subservient to the American administration at all.”
He added, “Iraq needs to reclaim its economic and political decision-making power and liberate its finances from American control and domination. Dealings with the United States and any other country should be based on Iraqi interests, not on Baghdad receiving a list of demands from Washington to be implemented.”
He emphasized that “the issue of national interest must be a priority. If the government proceeds to implement American demands, it will encounter obstacles in its path, as previous governments did.”
