Al-Maalomah/Baghdad –
Salam al-Zubaidi, a leader in the Victory Alliance, confirmed on Tuesday that discussions among the leaders of the Coordination Framework regarding the nomination of a candidate for the next prime minister are proceeding according to agreed-upon mechanisms and criteria, without any significant disagreements. He indicated that the Framework is close to reaching a comprehensive consensus on a single candidate. Al-Zubaidi told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the forces within the Coordination Framework have demonstrated their cohesion through the continued holding of periodic meetings with the participation of all leaders.” He explained that “this cohesion reflects the Framework’s ability to finalize its candidate for the premiership within the constitutional timeframe.”
He added that “the Coordination Framework played a crucial role in recent days in resolving the issue of the Speaker of Parliament and his two deputies, out of its commitment to ensuring all parties adhere to the constitutional deadlines for forming the presidencies and the next government.”
Al-Zubaidi emphasized that “even if the Framework reaches a final agreement on a candidate for prime minister, it will keep the candidate’s name confidential until after the election of the president.”
It is worth noting that the leaders of the framework held their regular meeting yesterday evening, Monday, the 257th such meeting, at the office of former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi. Several items on the agenda were discussed, along with the latest developments on the domestic and international scenes.
