MP Mohammed al-Bayati confirmed on Saturday that the issue of the 2026 budget will be resolved after the Eid al-Adha holiday, indicating that the timing of its submission will become clearer in the coming period.
Al-Bayati told the Information Agency, “The constitutional and legal procedures have determined the mechanism for dealing with the draft budget law, which begins with a vote by the Council of Ministers, then its referral to the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives for discussion, before being presented for its first and second readings and a final vote.” He clarified that “this process cannot be bypassed under any circumstances.”
He added, “After the Eid al-Adha holiday, the picture will be clearer regarding the fate of the 2026 budget and whether it will be submitted in June or later,” noting that “there are many obligations associated with proceeding with this budget, especially given the complex financial and economic challenges facing Iraq on various levels.”
Al-Bayati concluded by emphasizing that “the next few weeks will reveal more clearly the fate of the 2026 budget in terms of determining the timeframe for its presentation to the House of Representatives.”
