The Director General of the General Company for Maritime Transport in the Ministry of Transport, Ahmed Jassim, announced on Sunday the arrival of the ship “Basra” at the port of Umm Qasr loaded with containers, coming from the port of Jebel Ali in the Emirates, in a step that represents the resumption of the activity of the Iraqi maritime line and the return of its commercial trips after a hiatus of decades.
Jassim said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the resumption of the maritime route allows for the strengthening of the movement of goods and containers between Iraqi and Emirati ports, and provides additional shipping options for traders and importers, which contributes to facilitating import and export operations and revitalizing trade through the Umm Qasr port.
He added that the return of the line comes within the company’s directions to activate the activity of the national carrier and expand its services in the field of maritime transport, and enhance its presence in regional and international trade, in a way that supports the smooth transport of goods and contributes to serving the national economy.
