Security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef revealed on Monday that in-depth discussions are ongoing regarding the issue of restricting weapons to resistance factions, exclusively between the leaders of the resistance factions and Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi. He emphasized that this date is not a binding deadline for concluding the dialogue, which may take months given the sensitivity of the matter.
Abu Ragheef told the Information Agency that “discussions and meetings are still ongoing and in-depth between the Prime Minister and the leaders of the Islamic resistance factions,” noting that “things are progressing positively and towards a resolution and understanding.”
He added that “there is no sacred link or binding connection between the September 30th deadline and the completion of these dialogues, given the extreme importance and security and political sensitivity of this issue.”
Abu Ragheef clarified that “there is also no correlation or link between restricting the resistance’s weapons and the withdrawal of the international coalition forces led by the United States.”
He emphasized that “September 30th is supposed to mark the complete withdrawal of the last soldier from the international coalition forces from Iraqi territory.”
