Member of the Coordination Framework, Uday Abdul-Hadi, affirmed on Sunday that the withdrawal of US forces from Ain al-Asad Air Base in western Iraq carries three significant positive points on the national and security levels.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, Abdul-Hadi said, “The withdrawal of US forces from Ain al-Asad Air Base demonstrates the strength of the unified national stance aimed at removing foreign forces from the country.” He pointed out that “Iraq now possesses security forces with a high degree of competence and experience in confronting internal and external challenges, and capable of managing the security situation with high professionalism.”
He added, “Iraq no longer needs any foreign bases on its territory. Therefore, the withdrawal of these forces reinforces the principle of national sovereignty and closes any files related to violations.” He explained that “this step represents a clear message to the world that Iraq is experiencing a state of security and stability, and that its reliance on its national forces is a strategic choice for defending its security and stability and confronting any potential challenges.”
Abdul-Hadi indicated that “the Ministry of Defense began yesterday to redraw the deployment map within the sprawling base,” emphasizing that “this represents a significant achievement and will be the beginning of ending the remaining foreign presence on Iraqi soil, particularly at Al-Harir base and other areas.”
