Al-Maalomah/Anbar –
A source in Anbar province revealed on Friday that seven members of parliament intend to leave the Progress Alliance due to political disagreements over the distribution of positions in the new government by Mohammed al-Halbousi.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “seven members of the Progress Alliance intend to defect from the party because of their marginalization by the alliance’s leader, Mohammed al-Halbousi, and their exclusion from any government positions despite achieving high rankings in the parliamentary elections.”
The source added that “the defectors’ intention to leave the party stems from the fact that the party offices have become like a supermarket for selling positions during the formation of central and local governments. Moreover, the party offices have turned into a marketplace for selling positions to wealthy individuals, even though they lack any qualifications for leadership roles.” The source indicated that “al-Halbousi’s authoritarianism and unilateral decision-making will lead to the party’s fragmentation in the coming period.”
He explained that “Sunni alliances are witnessing significant divisions following the escalation of disagreements between the head of the Progress Alliance, Mohammed al-Halbousi, and Azm Muthanna al-Samarrai regarding the mechanism for distributing positions in the new government formation.”
