A responsible security source revealed on Saturday that a satellite communications system was destroyed as a result of the attack that targeted the headquarters of the US embassy in the capital, Baghdad, amid an accelerating pace of field escalation in Iraq and the region.
The source explained to Shafaq News Agency that the damaged system was dedicated to securing and exchanging data via satellite for diplomatic staff and employees within the complex.
According to the source, the US air defense system (C-RAM) was unable to intercept the “unidentified” drone that carried out the attack, despite its proximity to the target site, which led to the space system being directly hit.
In a related context, the Associated Press reported a fire and plumes of smoke rising from inside the compound following a missile strike, confirming, citing security sources, that one of the missiles directly hit the “helicopter landing pad” inside the embassy, causing material damage to the site.
