Political analyst Qasim al-Tamimi believes that the ongoing war in the region necessitates expediting the selection of the president of the republic, and proceeding with the appointment of the prime minister and the formation of the new government.
Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalouma that “Iraq is facing political, security and economic challenges as a result of the ongoing war in the region, the flames of which have reached inside Iraq and in the heart of the capital, which necessitates an effective political and governmental decision to confront these challenges.”
He added that “the continued political deadlock within the Kurdish house and the failure to agree on a specific candidate for the presidency may be driven by external motives to keep Iraq without a government and thus continue with a government with limited powers.”
He explained that “the ongoing war in the region necessitates that the Kurdish political bloc decide on a specific candidate for the presidency, who will then task the coordinating framework’s nominee with forming the new government to address the war’s repercussions, aftermath, and damage to Iraq.”
