Political analyst Qasim al-Tamimi ruled out the possibility of political parties reaching an agreement on forming a new government given the current circumstances.
Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalouma, “While the current situation necessitates the formation of a strong new government capable of making decisions that preserve Iraq’s sovereignty, an agreement among the political parties at this time is highly unlikely.”
He added, “The Kurdish bloc is still not united on a specific candidate for the presidency. Despite statements and discussions about the possibility of Nizar Amidi being nominated, the matter remains unresolved among the various Kurdish factions.”
He explained that “the Shiite bloc continues to hold meetings without reaching a consensus on a specific candidate for prime minister. Maliki remains a candidate for the presidency despite some opposition figures aligned with the American administration. Therefore, the presidential appointments will not be finalized before Eid al-Fitr.”
