It appears that a political agreement is in place to complete the cabinet and fill the remaining positions in Ali al-Zaidi’s government. There are confirmations that the countdown has begun for the parliamentary vote on the remaining ministerial posts. Meanwhile, some political parties have justified the delay in finalizing the cabinet by citing external interference and pressure exerted on Iraq regarding the government’s formation and the names of those who will assume ministerial positions.
Former State of Law Coalition MP Hussein Mardan told Al-Maalouma, “The vacant ministerial positions will be filled during September, according to the political agreement within the coordination framework and in accordance with understandings with the US administration.”
He added, “The political agreement stipulated that the cabinet file would be finalized after the end of the first legislative session of Parliament. However, this was postponed until September to allow for further understandings and political balance, as well as to monitor the current regional situation and developments in the region.”
He explained that “Al-Zidi’s government outreach to the factions is another reason for the delay in finalizing the cabinet and filling the vacant ministerial positions. This is in addition to the efforts regarding the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) file and the legislation of the PMF law, as well as working to achieve a balance in the relationship between Iran and the United States. All of these factors have contributed to the delay in filling the vacant ministerial posts.”
For his part, Ali Al-Zubaidi, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed to Al-Maalomah News Agency that “there is increasing American pressure regarding the selection of the remaining nine ministers to complete Prime Minister Ali Al-Zidi’s cabinet.”
He added that “the issue of completing the cabinet formation is receiving significant attention at the present time, given the ongoing consultations among political forces to fill the vacant ministries.”
He pointed out that “completing the cabinet is an important requirement to ensure the implementation of the government program and the continued functioning of executive institutions,” calling on political blocs “not to succumb to any external pressures and to adhere to the independence of national decision-making in resolving this matter.”
In a related development, coalition spokesman Aqeel al-Rudaini told Al-Maalomah that “all the forces within the coordination framework agree on the necessity of completing the cabinet formation, and there is a serious political will to finalize this matter in a manner consistent with the requirements of the current phase.”
He added that “resolving the issue of the remaining ministries will grant the government greater flexibility in implementing its service, economic, and security plans, as well as enhancing political stability in the coming period,” emphasizing that “the coordination framework attaches great importance to this matter and is working to complete it as quickly as possible.”
