A member of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment, Falah Al-Khafaji, suggested today, Friday, a mechanism through which half of the looted and smuggled money can be recovered if it is applied correctly and accurately.
Al-Khafaji said in an interview with Alsumaria News, “The actual elimination of corruption or its reduction and the return of the looted and smuggled funds need a real will and deliberate plans to address this file,” noting that “it is possible that the funds of every official in the Iraqi state will be followed up to his relatives of the fourth degree since During his tenure in office, and following up on their situation, did their wealth double and did they have large bank assets and properties?
Al-Khafaji added, “The second step is through activating the Illicit Gain Law, and from where did you get this, for those who have reached the point of obscene wealth and have become owners of banks, palaces and countless money, and follow-up from where they got that money, is it before 2003 or after?” This history and how to obtain it in detail,” he said, noting that “some people did not own anything and lived a very simple life, then today they have become owners of factories, huge projects and very large assets, and we must know where they got that money.”
He pointed out that “in the event we want to dry up the sources of corruption, or at least reduce them, then this mechanism should be proceeded as a first step, and then it is possible, in the case of correct and accurate application, to return up to half of the smuggled and looted sums in corruption deals,” stressing that “the matter needs seriousness and a strong prime minister.” He is brave and firm to fight corruption and not compliment under any pressure.”
