(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The head of the parliamentary change bloc, Yusuf Muhammad, proposed, on Tuesday, a set of reforms that could improve the economic and financial reality in the country.
Muhammad said in a press statement that “changing the exchange rate of the dinar against the dollar drew a new reality for the Iraqi economy that had not existed for 17 years, and this step has been discussed many times in the meetings of the presidencies and leaders of political blocs,” noting that “because of their weakness, state institutions resort to Easy solutions instead of difficult solutions with a more positive impact, such as returning smuggled funds that provide billions of dollars to the state’s treasury, and finding necessary funds to invest in certain areas, especially infrastructure.
He added, “At this time, the executive and legislative authorities must devote their efforts to mitigating the negative effects produced by changing the exchange rate.” “.
He added that “investment, local industries and the agricultural sector must be encouraged and supported, by increasing the advances granted to establish projects and including the Kurdistan Region as well, and to establish strict procedures regarding import, especially those commodities that can be produced locally to compete with the importer.”
He explained, “The government should impose taxes on luxury goods to preserve hard currency inside the country, stop its continuous bleeding abroad, activate the banking system inside the country and make all financial transactions take place through banks, which will lead to preserving liquidity and making all financial exchanges more transparent.” And increasing currency outlets and making them available to citizens by providing government banks with that, and preventing their monopoly by some banking institutions affiliated with political parties. ”
Muhammad expressed his “full support for reducing the salaries of special and higher ranks, but there must be concrete steps to combat corruption that citizens can feel.”
