A parliamentarian directs questions to Al-Sudani regarding the results of the investigation into the Deal of the CenturyShafaq News/ Today, Thursday, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Agriculture, Water and Marshlands Committee, Faleh Al-Khazali, directed parliamentary questions to the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, about the results of the investigation into the case of the so-called “corruption of the Deal of the Century” and the criminal cases against the former Oil Minister (Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar) and the so-called ( Nour Zuhair and 50 other defendants.”

In today’s statement, Al-Khazali demanded disclosure of the value of the recovered amounts and the remaining value of movable and immovable assets.

In his book addressed to Al-Sudani, Al-Khazali pointed out the necessity of disclosing the government’s measures against the fugitive accused (Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar), stressing the importance of coordination with the International Police (Interpol) for the purpose of arresting him and returning him to Iraq to be tried.

The statement quoted Al-Khazali as saying: The size of the fixed amounts in the corruption of the Deal of the Century exceeded (3) trillion Iraqi dinars, stressing that the questions directed to the Prime Minister will be answered within a period not exceeding (15) days in accordance with the law of the House of Representatives and its formations.

In October 2022, the “theft of the century” case was revealed for the first time, involving former senior officials and businessmen, and it sparked intense discontent in Iraq, which in recent years had witnessed widespread protests demanding an end to corruption.

The “theft of the century” became the talk of the Iraqi street, political circles and others until its echo spread outside Iraq and was covered by Arab and Western media.

The “theft of the century” is represented by the disappearance of an amount of 3.7 trillion Iraqi dinars (about two and a half billion dollars) of tax deposit funds, and it was revealed by several concerned parties about two months before the end of the term of the previous government headed by Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.
