MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi, a member of the Coordination Framework, affirmed on Sunday that the visit of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, to the capital Baghdad represents an important step towards strengthening understandings, noting that this visit comes at a sensitive time in which the country is witnessing complex economic, financial and oil issues that require consensual solutions.

Al-Moussawi told Shafaq News Agency that “the meetings that took place during the visit contributed to achieving remarkable progress in bringing the two sides closer together, especially with regard to the mechanisms for managing oil resources and distributing financial revenues, in addition to addressing the mutual obligations between Baghdad and Erbil.”

He added that “there is a shared political will to push relations towards a more stable path, in line with the requirements of the next stage, and to ensure support for the new government headed by Ali al-Zaidi, and to enable it to implement its service and economic program.”

Al-Moussawi pointed out that “the outstanding issues, most notably the oil file, financial entitlements and the salaries of the region’s employees, were a key focus of the discussions, with indications that practical understandings could be reached in the coming period.”

The MP continued, saying that “this visit may open the door to a new phase of cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil, and the expected results will be positive and fruitful if the convergence of positions achieved during the recent meetings is built upon.”

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, paid a visit to the capital, Baghdad, during which he met with the Prime Minister and a number of senior state officials, including the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, and the Speaker of Parliament, in order to discuss outstanding issues and strengthen understandings between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, in order to support stability and resolve common issues, according to several statements.

Aziz Ahmed, deputy director of the office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, announced last Friday that the latter is preparing to hold talks with Baghdad, as well as presenting the “Ronaki” electricity experience to help the federal government reform the energy sector.
