A member of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Ayed Al-Hilali, revealed today, Sunday, the date for resolving the presidential file by the Kurdish parties, while he did not rule out a repetition of the 2018 scenario.
Al-Hilali said in an interview with the “Information” agency, that “the candidate of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will be decided within a week or two, according to what they pledged to the coordinating framework forces during the past hours.”
He added, “The two parties will decide on a consensus candidate, or compete with candidates in the parliament session that will be held to vote on the President of the Republic,” stressing that “the absence of agreement between the two parties is the only obstacle to holding the session.”
A member of the Al-Fateh Alliance explained that “the political forces are continuous with each other, and there are mutual agreements between all parties to complete the constitutional entitlements as soon as possible.”
Al-Hilali stressed, “The competition for the presidency of the republic is not a new thing, and we saw it in 2018, when the vote was re-voted more than once until the matter was resolved within Parliament.”
According to the Iraqi constitution, the second step, after voting on choosing the presidency of the parliament, is to vote on the candidate for the presidency, after which the new president will assign the candidate of the major parliamentary bloc to form the government and submit it to Parliament for confidence within one month after the assignment.
