A new convoy of tankers loaded with Iraqi fuel arrived in Syrian territory on Monday, via the Rabia-Yarubiya border crossing in Hasakah Governorate, in preparation for exporting it to global markets.

Shafaq News Agency’s correspondent in Syria documented the crossing of Iraqi tankers on the international highway (M4 ) inside Syrian territory coming from the Rabia border crossing.

The reporter said that more than 50 tankers loaded with fuel oil entered Syrian territory today coming from Iraq and headed towards the city of Banias on the Syrian coast.

Last week, the first convoys of Iraqi fuel crossed into Syria through the same border crossing, as part of new arrangements between Baghdad and Damascus.

At the beginning of May, the Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs stated that “the movement of Iraqi fuel tankers through the Al-Yarubiyah border crossing is part of organized transit operations towards the Banias port, in preparation for re-export, in accordance with precise procedures to ensure smooth movement and efficient implementation.”

She explained that “these operations fall within the framework of ongoing efforts to activate Syria’s role as a regional logistics corridor, and to enhance transit traffic through land ports and harbors, which contributes to revitalizing trade and raising the efficiency of transport and supply chains.”

According to reports, this move comes after an agreement between the Iraqi and Syrian governments to export Iraqi oil derivatives through Syrian territory to global energy markets via the Mediterranean Sea.
