Information/Baghdad…
Former MP Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leading figure in the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Wednesday that reports circulating about the formation of a new parliamentary bloc comprising the State of Law Coalition and the Reconstruction and Development Bloc are still in the discussion phase and have not yet reached a final decision. He explained that the matter is still subject to political negotiations.
Jaafar told the Information Agency that the meeting between State of Law Coalition leader Nouri al-Maliki and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, in light of the understandings regarding the next prime ministerial candidate, which led to al-Sudani withdrawing from the race in favor of al-Maliki, included the idea of forming a parliamentary bloc within a coordinating framework and under the dome of parliament.
He clarified that this proposal has not yet been finalized and remains under discussion and negotiation among the concerned parties.
Jaafar added that if a final agreement is reached on forming this bloc, it will be the largest bloc within the coordination framework and in the House of Representatives. He noted that smaller political forces may join it upon its official announcement, potentially raising its number of seats to over 100, which would give the next prime minister greater political power in managing the upcoming phase.
