The head of the Al-Asas parliamentary bloc, Alaa al-Haidari, called on the government Tuesday to take urgent legal action to reclaim the Iraqi-Saudi oil pipeline, stressing the need to protect Iraq’s rights in this matter.
Al-Haidari told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The Yanbu pipeline is one of the important issues that requires urgent government action to restore Iraq’s rights through established legal procedures.”
He added, “The government is required to seriously address this issue and follow up on it from all legal and technical aspects to ensure the preservation of Iraq’s interests, funds, and oil assets.”
Al-Haidari emphasized the need to “take clear steps to reclaim the pipeline and end any situation that deprives Iraq of benefiting from its oil assets,” stressing that the issue requires genuine government follow-up to safeguard the country’s rights.
Earlier, the deputy head of the Haqaiq parliamentary bloc, Saud al-Saadi, also called on the government to take urgent legal action to reclaim ownership of the Iraqi oil pipeline running through Saudi Arabia (Zubair-Khurais-Yanbu), asserting that the pipeline and its giant storage tanks were built with Iraqi funds amounting to approximately $2.6 billion and are the property of the Iraqi people according to the constitution.
