A legal expert clarifies the constitutionality of restoring confidence to the three presidenciesLegal expert Ali Al-Tamimi clarified, on Monday, the constitutionality of restoring confidence to those in charge of the three presidencies for a third term in the country, pointing out that the provisions of the constitution are explicit and clear on this matter.

Al-Tamimi said in a press statement that “the constitution specified the duration of a person’s tenure of office in one of the three presidencies, as it granted him the possibility of renewing the mandate for two terms only.”

He added that “the constitution did not include an explicit text about determining the term of the prime minister’s presidency, but it included in Article 72 specifying the term of the president of the republic for two terms only.”

Al-Tamimi explained, “The failure to specify the prime minister’s mandate does not mean that it is absolute because constitutional norms govern, and retaining the prime minister will make democracy vulnerable and institutions will not be renewed, so his continuation violates global constitutional trends.”
