On Wednesday, Uday Abdul-Hadi, a member of the Coordination Framework, clarified the rumors circulating about Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition, withdrawing his candidacy for the premiership.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, Abdul-Hadi stated, “What has been reported by some news websites and social media platforms about al-Maliki withdrawing his candidacy for prime minister, despite being the nominee of the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament, is inaccurate.” He explained that “these reports are nothing more than baseless speculation and leaks.”
He added, “The Coordination Framework is clear in its decision regarding al-Maliki’s nomination, and any changes to this matter will be announced exclusively through official statements.” He emphasized that “the Framework does not rely on leaks or assumptions in crucial matters.”
Abdul-Hadi indicated that “the coordination framework meeting held yesterday focused on the overall current situation in the region, particularly the security repercussions following the attack on Tehran and its potential impact on Baghdad,” noting that “the issue of reconsidering the prime ministerial candidate was not raised for discussion, contrary to what some websites have claimed.”
