Mohammed Al-Khalidi, a leader in the Development and Reconstruction Coalition, denied on Tuesday what had been reported about the collapse of the coalition after a series of withdrawals in the past 72 hours.

Al-Khalidi told Al-Maalouma that “the Development and Reconstruction Coalition remains cohesive, and the withdrawals that occurred during the past 72 hours are a normal occurrence in the political landscape, and will not cause any significant harm to the coalition, which was built on national foundations and principles.”

He added that “withdrawals are a normal part of political work, and in return there will be other forces and deputies who will join the coalition in the coming weeks.”

Al-Khalidi pointed out that “there is a great deal of exaggeration in dealing with the withdrawals issue, as if it will lead to the collapse of the coalition, despite the fact that it received the highest number of votes in the last elections,” stressing that “the pillars of the coalition are cohesive and are proceeding according to a national vision to achieve all of its goals.”

He concluded by saying that “the withdrawals will not affect the coalition’s options or its presence, as it still represents an important and influential force in the Iraqi political landscape.”
