A security source revealed on Sunday that a high-profile operation led to the arrest of one of the most prominent distributors of counterfeit foreign currency in the Middle Euphrates region.
The source told Al-Maalomah that “intelligence efforts spanning three provinces contributed to identifying one of the most prominent distributors of counterfeit foreign currency, particularly US dollars, after monitoring his movements east of Diwaniyah.” The source
added that “security forces set up a well-planned ambush for the suspect last night, resulting in his arrest,” noting that “more than $80,000 in counterfeit US dollars were found in his possession.”
The source indicated that “the detainee is a treasure trove of information, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the networks involved in counterfeiting and distributing currency,” emphasizing that “the exchange of information and intelligence efforts led to his identification, and this operation will be the beginning of uncovering more counterfeiting networks within the Middle Euphrates and southern provinces, extending as far as Baghdad.”
