The former MP, Mohammed Ibrahim, denied on Thursday the existence of absolute support or complete agreement from the political blocs that brought Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to power regarding the measures he has taken to combat corruption and prosecute those accused of stealing public funds.
Ibrahim told Al-Maalomah news agency, “The political blocs that brought Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to power have a near-consensus on the steps he has recently taken in the fight against corruption and the removal of some of those accused of stealing public funds.”
He added, “The Prime Minister has not taken any steps that are unknown to the political blocs, but he differs from previous prime ministers in terms of his neutrality and non-affiliation with any political bloc, which has given him more room to proceed with anti-corruption measures.”
He pointed out that “al-Zaidi has moved to implement the arrest warrants issued by the judiciary against those accused of corruption and to work on eliminating corruption hotspots, after receiving the green light from the political blocs that support his decisions and measures aimed at addressing the problems that previous governments suffered from in the corruption file.”
