MP Duha al-Bahadli, from the National Approach Bloc, announced on Tuesday that the Parliament intends to activate the parliamentary hearings and interrogations process in the coming period, in addition to forming investigative committees to follow up on corruption and financial waste cases, and to tighten oversight of the performance of government institutions.
Al-Bahadli told Al-Maalouma, “The coming period will witness a broader activation of the oversight tools available to Parliament, including hearings, interrogations, and the formation of investigative committees, whenever the necessary data and legal justifications are available.”
She explained that “protecting public funds is a shared responsibility between the legislative and executive branches, which necessitates serious integration of efforts between the various oversight and judicial bodies to combat corruption and prosecute those involved.”
Al-Bahadli pointed out that “Iraqi citizens no longer pay attention to statements or promises, but rather await tangible results that positively impact both public services and the economy.” She explained that “the success of any anti-corruption movement is measured by its ability to recover stolen public funds and hold those responsible accountable without exception.”
The MP stressed the necessity of “establishing transparent and clear rules in future government contracts and projects to ensure integrity and avoid the mistakes and abuses of previous phases,” emphasizing that “activating the parliament’s oversight role is a fundamental step in rebuilding citizens’ trust in government institutions.”
