MP Ahmed Kain called on the Prime Minister on Sunday to launch new anti-corruption campaigns and not be satisfied with the measures taken during what became known as “Operation Dawn.”
Kain told the Information Agency that “combating corruption requires more serious and comprehensive measures, and campaigns should not be limited to specific cases or individuals.” He called on the Prime Minister to “launch new campaigns targeting the big players of corruption and those involved in cases of waste and theft, without selectivity.”
He added that “corruption remains one of the most prominent challenges facing the Iraqi state, and continuing to pursue small-time corrupt officials without reaching the big fish will not achieve the desired results.” He stressed the need to “activate oversight and judicial bodies and hold accountable all those proven guilty.”
Kain pointed out that “the Iraqi public is waiting for real steps that translate anti-corruption slogans into concrete actions,” emphasizing that “opening major cases and holding those involved accountable will strengthen citizens’ trust in state institutions.”
He concluded by saying, “The next phase requires bolder and more comprehensive operations, not just the dawn raid, to reach the corrupt kingpins, recover the looted funds, and hold those responsible accountable according to the law.”
