Owners of private generators in Ramadi, Anbar province, halted electricity supply to most residential areas on Monday until they receive their allocated share of kerosene and are exempted from taxes imposed on generator operation.
Saleh Raed al-Dulaimi, one of the generator owners, told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “Private generator owners in Ramadi stopped supplying electricity to most residential areas because the local government has failed to fulfill its obligations to provide them with their allocated share of kerosene, in addition to their demands for tax exemption.”
Al-Dulaimi added, “It is expected that other private generator owners throughout Anbar will join in shutting down their generators within the next few hours.”
In a related development, a security force from the National Security Service, according to a source speaking to Al-Maalomah News Agency, is preparing to launch a campaign against owners of unlicensed private generators who have refused to operate their generators and are threatening to cut off electricity to citizens until their demands are met.
The source confirmed that “the National Security Service has vowed to arrest anyone who prevents the generators from operating and refer them to the judiciary.”
