Most Iraqi provinces experienced a complete power outage on Wednesday evening, in an event described as a “shutdown” due to heavy loads.
The Basra Electricity Control Center stated, according to what was reported by a correspondent for Shafaq News Agency, that “the outage throughout the governorate was due to a technical malfunction that affected the network, which caused the electricity to stop flowing to homes and vital institutions.”
For his part, MP Hassan Wariouch confirmed, in a post on Facebook, which was followed by the agency, that a complete blackout of the electrical system had occurred.
In contrast, a source in the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity told Shafaq News Agency that “the electrical system has completely stopped in Iraq, especially in the central and southern governorates.”
He noted that “the relevant authorities are working to determine the causes of the outage and restore power to all affected areas as soon as possible.”
