Baqir al-Saadi, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed on Saturday that Nouri al-Maliki remains the Framework’s sole candidate for the next prime minister, denying rumors circulating about his intention to withdraw.
Speaking to Al-Maalomah, al-Saadi stated, “The Coordination Framework is clear in its approach to the issue of the next prime minister, given its position as the largest parliamentary bloc in the Council of Representatives.” He clarified that “Nouri al-Maliki remains the Framework’s only candidate for this position, and no withdrawal has occurred, contrary to what is being promoted in some media outlets and on social media.”
He added, “If the Framework has another option, it will announce it through clear official statements.” He further noted that “the current stage requires the Kurdish forces to reach understandings to resolve the issue of the presidency, as it is a constitutional entitlement that must be settled before proceeding with nominating the largest bloc’s candidate to form the next government.”
