In anticipation of assassination leaders of armed factions are tightening their precautionary measures in IraqShafaq News – Baghdad
On Saturday, a well-informed political source close to Shiite armed factions revealed that a number of leaders, mostly from Shiite forces with armed wings, have begun taking strict security measures in recent hours, reducing their movement and public appearances, due to information about the possibility of targeted operations or assassinations by Israeli or American aircraft.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that these leaders have greatly reduced their public appearances and decreased their attendance at public events and open meetings. They have also rearranged their daily movements and whereabouts in anticipation of any possible attacks that may target prominent figures involved, politically or on the ground, in the escalation related to the ongoing war in the region.

He added that concerns have escalated within these forces after a number of faction leaders became involved in supporting Iran politically and militarily, in addition to adopting attacks that targeted sites in Erbil, bases housing American forces, as well as Baghdad Airport where Victoria Base is located, in addition to other operations that those factions said they carried out outside Iraq.

According to the source, the assessments circulating within these circles speak of a more sensitive phase, which may witness a shift in targeting from striking sites and headquarters to pursuing specific leading figures.

This comes at a time when the repercussions of the war between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, are widening, amid growing fears that the confrontation will spread to additional regional arenas, including Iraq, which has witnessed a clear increase in attacks in recent hours, the latest of which was the targeting of a hotel on Friday evening in Erbil, shortly after an American warning.
