The Ministry of Electricity confirmed on Friday that the Iraqi-Gulf interconnection will enter service in April with a capacity of 500 megawatts, while it indicated that the operation of the interconnection with Turkey will begin at the start of the summer peak loads. The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, told the official agency that “the interconnection projects include the electrical interconnection project with Jordan, which is now operating in the first phase and has been developed to enter the second phase,” noting that “the Iraqi-Gulf interconnection project has reached a completion rate of 95% and is in the process of completing the operational procedures and will enter service in April with its first phase with a capacity of 500 megawatts.”
He added that “the connection with Turkey will begin operating with the start of the peak summer loads, and it is fully completed and has already been operated,” stressing that “the system is in the preparation phase, the connection lines have not been affected, and even the gas supplies are the same as the missing supplies of 6,000,000 cubic meters, but the impact on the production stations system is still significant, and production is still affected.”
Moussa also confirmed that “the preparedness plan is progressing well to reach readiness with the peak of summer loads, and he is well aware of the size of the responsibility and obligations and that the stations should be in an ideal condition to keep up with the summer loads.”
