The Ministry of Transport confirmed that this year will witness the completion of all works on the submerged tunnel and container yard projects, in addition to three similar infrastructure projects, signaling the completion of the first phase of the Grand Faw Port project.
The Ministry’s Media Office Director, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah newspaper that the Ministry is continuing its work to complete the first phase of the Faw Port project this year. This phase includes three essential infrastructure projects, all part of a comprehensive plan to bring the port into service according to schedule. He explained that current efforts are focused on completing all work on the submerged tunnel project, a key component of the project, as it connects the port to the main road network and facilitates the movement of goods and trucks. The tunnel also plays a vital role in improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. Al-Safi noted that work is also underway to complete the second project within the first phase of the port: the container yard. This involves equipping the yard with the required technical specifications to ensure its readiness to receive and handle containers at high operational capacity.
He stressed in the same context that the ministry is working according to precise timetables in coordination with the implementing companies and consulting bodies, to ensure the delivery of the remaining projects soon, as the completion of these facilities will constitute a pivotal step towards closing the chapter on the completion of the Grand Faw Port project.
The director of the ministry’s media office stated that the Faw port represents a strategic project, as it will enhance the country’s position as a regional and international trade corridor, linking East and West through a maritime and land transport network, in addition to contributing to supporting the national economy and providing wide job opportunities in the fields of transport and logistics services. He explained that completing the first phase will open the door to subsequent phases, which include developing additional facilities and increasing capacity.
