The entrance to the Green Zone from the direction of the Hanging Bridge witnessed tensions and hand-to-hand clashes, and the use of bullets and smoke bombs by the security forces, after attempts to storm the zone and head towards the American embassy by angry crowds over the martyrdom of His Eminence Sayyid Ali Khamenei (may God be pleased with him). Video footage showed large numbers of crowds attempting to storm the Green Zone, as well as using a bulldozer to remove the Green Zone gates and head towards the American embassy in response to the assassination of the Supreme Leader in Iran.
Meanwhile, security forces used gunfire and smoke bombs to force the angry crowds to retreat.
Demonstrations also broke out in front of the Green Zone gate from the direction of the suspension bridge since yesterday evening in protest against the Iranian bombing and the bombing of a Popular Mobilization Forces headquarters in Jurf al-Nasr.
