A leader in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Ghiath al-Surji, indicated on Saturday that a final agreement between the two Kurdish parties, the PUK and the KDP, regarding the presidency is expected to be officially announced within the next two days.
Al-Surji told the Information Agency that “meetings were held throughout the past week between the PUK and the KDP, resulting in advanced understandings aimed at reaching a compromise candidate for the position.” He explained that “the details of the agreement and the candidate’s name are still being kept confidential to ensure the completion of legal procedures.”
He added that “the forces of the Coordination Framework played a pivotal role by bridging the gap between Sulaimaniyah and Erbil without siding with one party over the other,” noting that “this movement directly contributed to breaking the political deadlock and reaching this stage of the agreement.”
For his part, MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi, from the Badr parliamentary bloc, confirmed to Al-Maalomah that “the two Kurdish sides have finalized the solution,” adding that “an official announcement resolving the issue will likely be made this week, paving the way for the formation of the next government.”
