MP Siham al-Moussawi, from the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, indicated on Saturday that a direct vote within the Council of Representatives is likely to resolve the issue of electing the President of the Republic, noting that this option has become the most probable given the continued political deadlock.
Al-Moussawi told the Information Agency, “The political process needs to break the deadlock and resolve constitutional entitlements, foremost among them the position of President of the Republic,” stressing that a vote within the parliament is the constitutional means to resolve this matter.
She added that “political forces may be forced to adopt the voting mechanism if final agreements are not reached,” calling on all parties to “prioritize the national interest and avoid further delays in forming the government.”
