The Union reaffirms its support for its presidential candidate and warns against political deadlockThe head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) parliamentary bloc, Harim Kamal, reiterated on Tuesday his party’s commitment to its candidate, Nizar Amidi, for the presidency. He emphasized that the PUK has not yet reached an agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party ( KDP) regarding this constitutional entitlement.
Kamal told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The PUK is committed to its candidate, Nizar Amidi, for the presidency,” adding that “dialogue with the KDP has not yet led to a final understanding on the candidate.”
He further stated that “the delay in resolving this issue threatens a new political deadlock and will affect other constitutional entitlements,” noting that “the next phase requires expediting consensus to overcome the political crisis.”
Kamal pointed out that “the PUK will continue its efforts to reach an agreement that guarantees the stability of the political process,” stressing that “the delay in resolving the presidential issue negatively impacts the formation of the new government and the work of parliament.”
