A source close to the Coordination Framework confirmed on Tuesday that the framework’s leaders will hold a crucial meeting this evening to decide on the nomination for the next prime minister.
The source told the Information Agency, “The Coordination Framework will hold its regular meeting this evening at the home of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council, Humam Hamoudi, to discuss a number of critical political issues, foremost among them expediting the formation of the new Iraqi government, in addition to discussing the nomination of Maliki, given the publicly stated American opposition to this nomination.”
The source, who requested anonymity, added that “the meeting will focus on assessing the repercussions of continuing Maliki’s nomination on the relationship between the Coordination Framework and the American administration and the international community at large, as well as discussing options for withdrawing the nomination or continuing to support it, while studying the expected scenarios for the political, security, and economic challenges that may arise from any decision taken.”
The Coordination Framework held a regular meeting yesterday, Monday, at Humam Hamoudi’s home, without addressing the issue of deciding on the position of the next prime minister.
