Walid al-Asadi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Monday that the Coordination Framework is the body responsible for determining the candidate for Prime Minister, noting that Nouri al-Maliki is currently the only candidate being seriously considered within the framework.
Al-Asadi told the Information Agency, “The Coordination Framework is the largest political bloc within the Shia political establishment, and it has the authority to decide on the name of the Prime Minister candidate according to the mechanisms agreed upon by its constituent forces.” He explained that “Nouri al-Maliki is currently the only candidate seriously considered within the framework.”
He added that “the mechanism for selecting the candidate is subject to the principle of majority rule within the framework, where deliberation and voting take place according to established democratic procedures, far removed from any unilateral action or imposition of will.” He pointed out that “internal consensus is the basis for passing any name to the stage of official nomination.”
He indicated that “the Coordination Framework does not rely solely on documents and political statements in managing its positions, but resorts to them when necessary to clarify facts or resolve political disputes.” He emphasized that “the next stage requires clarity of vision and unification of positions to ensure the stability of the political process.”
He concluded by saying that “the coordinating framework will make its final decision based on the principle of majority rule and in accordance with the country’s best interests, ensuring the formation of a strong government capable of addressing the political, economic, and service-related challenges of the coming phase.”
