Khor Abdullah - Will Iraqs geography awaken to correct the sins of the tentRaji Sultan Al-Zuhairi
The Iraqi move to deposit the maritime maps with the United Nations was not just a routine administrative procedure, but a political “earthquake” that revealed the fragility of the agreements that were formulated in the night of defeat. Declaring Khor Abdullah purely Iraqi is not a claim, but rather a restoration of the memory of navigation that some tried to obliterate behind unjust international decisions that were born from the womb of a suffocating siege and merciless pressures.

“Brothers are on high alert… a call to arms!”

As soon as Baghdad moved to demarcate its maritime borders, voices of protest rose from Kuwait, and the matter did not stop there. Rather, the countries of (Qatar, Bahrain and the Emirates) rushed to stand behind the Kuwaiti vision. Here the Iraqi citizen raises a legitimate and sharp question: Why are these countries mobilizing against Iraq’s right to a sea outlet from which it can breathe?

The attempt to “contain” Iraq by sea is an old, renewed policy aimed at keeping Mesopotamia a “semi-landlocked” state subject to the whims of its neighbors regarding the entry and exit of its ships. These countries, whose demographic composition relies on foreign labor from all corners of the earth, forget that Iraq, with its historical depth and people, does not accept guardianship and does not agree to have its borders drawn by the pens of strangers.

Safwan knot and Hafr al-Batin

Kuwait has gone too far, taking advantage of the ill-fated tent agreement signed by Saddam Hussein’s regime without popular mandate. This agreement encroached on Iraqi lands until the borders reached the outskirts of Safwan city. Not content with that, the neighbor continued its policy of draining resources by drilling slanted wells deep inside Iraq, in a blatant theft of oil wealth in full view of the world.

Don’t count on patience

Brandishing the specter of American protection or regional alliances will not change the reality, and Kuwait and those who stand with it must realize that people do not forget their rights, and that the Iraqi popular uprising to reclaim land and water is not just a slogan, but the will of millions of Iraqis who are fed up with concessions.

In conclusion: Khor Abdullah is the lung of Iraq, and the Iraqi people will not allow any party to strangle this lung. Sovereignty is not given as a gift, but rather seized, and history is being written today by Iraqi pens that refuse to be broken.
