MP Mudhar al-Karawi confirmed on Wednesday that Iraqi refinery production rates have increased by 10% over the past 16 months.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Karawi said, “Achieving 100% self-sufficiency in fuel for Iraq is a top priority, especially since the import bill was approaching 3 to 4 trillion dinars annually. However, the Ministry of Oil’s efforts in developing refineries and increasing production lines have been remarkable.”
He added, “The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Adnan Muhammad Amin, played a prominent role in managing the development of the main refineries in Baghdad and Salah al-Din, extending to the central and southern Euphrates governorates. This has led to high production rates and self-sufficiency in several types of petroleum products, despite increased demand, particularly due to the rising number of cars, in addition to weather conditions that sometimes raise peak consumption rates.”
Al-Karawi pointed out that “the criticisms leveled by some against the Undersecretary of the Ministry are far from objective and transparent, and it seems that his success in complex matters has provoked some,” stressing “the necessity of supporting the elites and competencies in the Ministry of Oil who have achieved outstanding results during the past months and contributed to changing the direction of work and the production map by 180%.”
