Kurdistan Democratic Party member Haitham al-Mayahi confirmed today that there is no official position from the United States rejecting Nouri al-Maliki’s nomination, clarifying that what is being circulated on this matter is merely media speculation and not based on any official diplomatic communications.
Al-Mayahi told the Information Agency, “Talk of an official American objection to al-Maliki’s nomination is inaccurate, as no official message or notification has been received in this regard.” He pointed out that “the political landscape remains open to all possibilities as dialogues continue between the political forces.”
He added that “the news circulating about Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s return to the premiership remains within the realm of political wishful thinking and will not materialize under the current circumstances,” noting that “the understandings between the blocs have not yet been finalized.”
He explained that “the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government will take place immediately after the formation of the federal government in Baghdad, especially given the existence of preliminary agreements in this direction, pending the completion of constitutional requirements.”
This statement comes at a time when the political arena is witnessing intense activity and ongoing consultations among the main forces to resolve the issues of the presidency, the federal government, and the regional government, amid expectations that the pace of agreements will accelerate after the Eid holiday.
