Burhan Sheikh Raouf, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), revealed on Saturday that an agreement has been reached between the Kurdish parties regarding the presidential candidate.
Raouf told Al-Maalouma that “meetings were held over the past two days between the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Erbil, with the aim of reaching a consensus on a candidate for the presidency.” He noted that “the details of the agreement regarding the candidate have not yet been disclosed.”
He added that “the forces within the Coordination Framework worked during the past period to bridge the differences and did not take sides in the presidential candidate crisis, which contributed to reaching an agreement between the Kurdish parties.”
Earlier, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, a member of the Badr parliamentary bloc, had predicted that the presidential position would be decided on Sunday, after the two Kurdish parties reached final understandings regarding the presidency.
