The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that it had conducted a missile launch test using the Chinese multi-mission drone (CH5) at Ain al-Asad Air Base in Anbar province, western Iraq.

The ministry said in a statement that the Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, supervised the test of launching a missile at the target using an aircraft belonging to the Army Aviation Command, in the presence of the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Army for Operations, the Commander of the Ground Forces, the Assistant Director of Military Intelligence, and the Director of Technical Equipment.

The statement added that the Chief of Staff of the Army “was briefed on the details of the experiment through the execution of a CH5 aircraft launching missiles at real targets in the Al-Tash area, west of Anbar, achieving great success and high accuracy.”

Yarallah stressed the importance of developing the combat and technological capabilities of the armed forces, in order to enhance their readiness and efficiency in carrying out the duties and tasks assigned to them.

The Chief of Staff also stressed the need to continue conducting qualitative experiments and exercises that contribute to raising the level of operational performance and keeping pace with developments in the field of armament and military technologies, in order to achieve the highest levels of readiness to protect Iraq’s security and sovereignty.

The Supreme Military Committee for Ending the Mission of the International Coalition in Iraq announced at the beginning of 2026 the completion of the process of evacuating military bases and command headquarters in Iraq from advisors of the international coalition against ISIS led by the United States of America.

The committee confirmed in a statement that Ain al-Asad Air Base and the Joint Operations Command headquarters are now under the full control of the Iraqi security forces.
