The Information Agency / Baghdad…
MP Amer al-Fayez, a leading figure in the Coordination Framework and head of the Tasmeem Alliance, confirmed on Thursday that the Framework’s forces have decided to give the two Kurdish parties until next week to resolve the dispute over the presidency. He noted that intensive contacts with Erbil and Sulaimaniyah are ongoing.
Al-Fayez told the Information Agency that “the Coordination Framework has decided to exercise patience with the two Kurdish parties, the KDP and the PUK, to give them one last chance to reach an agreement on a consensus candidate, or to present their own candidates and leave the final decision to Parliament.” He
added that “the Framework does not want the Kurdish political deadlock to continue and is keen on the political stability of the Kurdistan Region, as it is an integral part of Iraq’s stability.”
He indicated that “the contacts and mediation efforts undertaken by the Framework with the Kurdish leadership are ongoing and have not ceased,” without revealing what step the Framework will take if the deadline passes without an agreement.
The spokesperson for the Badr parliamentary bloc, MP Hamid al-Moussawi, revealed to Al-Maalomah News Agency that the two Kurdish parties had submitted a request to the Coordination Framework for a “final” extension to resolve the issue of the presidency, stressing that the Framework was still pushing for Kurdish “consensus.”
