The National Union - Todays meeting with the party was positive... The coming hours are crucial for a final agreementMahmoud Khoshnaw, a leader in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, confirmed on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) that the meeting was positive and witnessed some understandings between the two sides, but it is still too early to talk about the existence of a final agreement.

Khoshnaw said in a press statement that “the encouraging atmosphere may pave the way for reaching a decisive agreement during the next stage,” noting that “the two parties are aware of the magnitude of the challenges facing the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in general, which should push towards forming a joint front to confront these challenges.”

He added that “the meeting was a continuation of last week’s meetings,” describing it as “precise,” and expressing his hope that “the ongoing meetings will lead to a final agreement,” indicating that “the coming hours will be crucial in clarifying whether these understandings will turn into a formal agreement or not.”

These meetings were part of a series of intensive political dialogues between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan during the past weeks, with the aim of settling outstanding issues between them, particularly those related to unifying the position regarding constitutional entitlements in Baghdad, mechanisms for sharing federal positions, as well as regulating the relationship with the federal government on the issues of salaries of the region’s employees and the oil and gas law, in light of political and economic pressures pushing towards the formulation of a sustainable understanding between the two sides.
